2022 AAO Spring Symposium: Cosmetic Optometry
The AAO is offering a one-day Symposium focused on Cosmetic Optometry on May 14th in Calgary.
This full day session includes lectures and applied workshops to expand member knowledge of the development and management for incorporating cosmetic optometry into general practice. You will grow your mind and gain hands-on experience in the use of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy and Radiofrequency machines as well as learn how Botox can be used in optometry. All of which can be added to your clinic offerings!

Your full day registration includes:
9:00AM to 10:30AM - General Lecture: Dr. Selina McGee
Learn about practice development and management for incorporating cosmetic optometry into general practice.
10:45AM to 12:15PM; 1:15PM to 2:45PM; 3:00PM to 4:30PM - ODs will rotate through three sessions.
Using Radiofrequency: Doctors will learn about the successful use of radiofrequency in treating meibomian gland disfunction, droopy eyelid, and chalazions. In addition, you will learn the cosmetic value of using radiofrequency in treating fine lines, skin tightening, and wrinkles.
Using IPL (Intense Pulsed Light): Doctors will learn about the successful use in treating meibomian gland disfunction and the additional cosmetic value in treating vascular, pigment, rosacea, inflammation, fine lines and wrinkles.
Using Botox and Ptosis: Doctors will spend this session in a combination learning environment and observing the use of Botox as a component treatment, understanding side effects, treatment protocols, follow-up and maintenance, and how to integrate these into practice. Ptosis – DDx to determine when to treat with Botox/drops and when to refer for underlying conditions (ex: Myasthenia gravis, horner’s, etc.)
12:15pm to 1:15pm - Lunch
4:30PM to 5:00PM - Closing Remarks and an opportunity to ask any last questions.
CE Credits: This full day of learning qualifies for 14 category 1 credits.
