Part-Time Membership

Are you a licensed optometrist in Alberta who prefers a reduced workload? If you’re a member of the Alberta College of Optometrists and agree to limit your practice to a maximum of 75 working days per year in any jurisdiction, you can apply for Part-Time Membership with the AAO.

Eligibility

To become a Part-Time Member, you must:

  • Hold a valid Alberta College of Optometrists membership.
  • Practice no more than 75 working days per year in any jurisdiction. 
  • Pay all relevant professional dues, fees, and levies.
  • Sign a declaration agreeing to follow the AAO bylaws.

Definition of Part-Time

A “working day” means any optometric activity performed in a day—whether it’s a full day or just a few hours. For example: 75 half-days = 75 working days.

Professional Dues

Less than 25 years in practice in Alberta
→ 50% of AAO/CAO dues and levies

More than 25 years in practice in Alberta
→ 33% of AAO/CAO applicable dues and 50% of AAO/CAO applicable levies
